Q: If this reed is showing out of stock, when will it be back in stock?

A: Friday. Maybe. Here’s how our stocking system works. Most (not all) of our reed-makers send their shipments on Mondays via UPS to our head of oboe reeds. She receives them, tests every single one, and then brings them to us on Friday in the late morning. Then we take all the reeds, process them, put them lovingly into containers, label them, and enter them into inventory so folks can order them. *before we enter them into stock, we take out some for the upcoming reed subscription customers since they get first dibs on them, which is why you sometimes see very few of some styles in stock, even on Fridays (#6, I’m looking in your direction…). While we wish shipping delays due to weather, shipping volume, and human error would not occur, unfortunately sometimes they do, which is out of our control. The best things you can do are: plan ahead as much as possible, opt for a reed subscription next time the reeds are in stock (they have to be in stock to be able to subscribe), and find alternatives in our reed lineup that you like, too, so at least you have something that works until your fav is back in stock.

Reeds that ship weekly: #1, #2, #5, #6, #8, #9, #10, #12, #15

Reeds that ship bi-monthly: #7, #11, #13, #14

Reeds that ship monthly: #3, #4

Oboe Reed #13. 70% resistance/30% flexibility. Focused, resonance tone. String color light blue. Tip opening: more open. If out of stock, try #14 or #12. Inventory updated daily. Returns & exchanges on reeds not accepted.

This reed used to be called the "F" reed, but we do not call it that anymore. If you used to buy that reed, this is the same reed, just with a different name now. We appreciate you learning and using the new name.

We have a unique system for naming our reeds. We assign them a number based on criteria about their levels of resistance. The numbers on this chart show the percentage of resistance in the reed on the left, and the percentage of flexibility in the reed on the right.

The number essentially corresponds to how easy the reed is to blow to how easy the reed is to control. Here is some advice about how to select the best reed fit for you. Do you have a request for a specific tip opening (more closed | medium | more open)? Put that in the notes and we’ll do our best to select a tip to your specifications.
