This is a used Heckel bassoon, serial number 6639. By our research this bassoon seems to have been made in 1928. It has an ivory bell ring and has had work done on it by Keith Bowen and Ken Potsic. High D key, High E key, & comes with a Leitzinger bocal.

This is a used Heckel bassoon, serial number 6639. By our research this bassoon seems to have been made in 1928. It has an ivory bell ring and has had work done on it by Keith Bowen and Ken Potsic. High D key, High E key, & comes with a Leitzinger bocal.
 
Heckel 6639, imported into the US January 27, 1928

Owned by woodwind player/clinician Curtis C. Guckert, from Dallas, TX, who passed away in 1988. 

Purchased by the current owner in 2009. Sent to Keith Bowen Bassoon Workshop in 2010 for a complete overhaul, including:

Refinishing

Silver plating

Pads, springs, cork

High E key

Replacing the left thumb whisper lock with a right thumb lock

 

The bassoon was sent to Ken Potsic in 2012, who did the following work:

Added 1 set of custom coin silver water tubes

Re did the bell cap with original, like-era, reclaimed ivory

 

The screw-style crutch assembly was added in 2020 by Otter Creek Double Reeds as a custom-made piece, made from Pink Ivory wood.
