We recently turned off reed backordering. Reeds that are in stock are available to purchase. If they don't show up in stock, we don't have them in store or online. Due to supply, a limit of 3 reeds per style per order.
The Intermediate Oboe Reed "S" style is currently not available since the maker just had a baby. We recommend selecting a different reed. The most similar is the Intermediate S+
If you previously placed an order for an intermediate S oboe reed, we're working to provide you with alternative options now. We are working as quickly as possible to fill previous orders.
If you normally buy the Intermediate S style oboe reed, you could try these:
INTERMEDIATE S+ OBOE REEDS
INTERMEDIATE Z OBOE REEDS
INTERMEDIATE A OBOE REEDS
INTERMEDIATE B OBOE REEDS
INTERMEDIATE D OBOE REEDS
For first year players: try our BASIC OBOE REEDS
For second year players and beyond: try our PRO I OBOE REEDS
Or try our Intermediate A oboe reeds (from this page)
Our intermediate oboe reed line is handmade by various professional oboists. The letters denote individual reed makers, and they all have their own scrapes and shapes.Reeds are listed here in order of most free-blowing to most resistant:
(S - this maker just had a baby so she is not making reeds right now; select the S+, Z, A, B, or D for a similar reed)
S+ – Responsive, beautiful sound, a smidge more to push against in the second octave, quickly becoming our most popular reed
B - A good alternative to the S reed. Stable, medium aperture, average tip length.
Z - A slightly more resistant alternative to the S reed. Longer tip, small aperture, defined scrape.
A – Our original intermediate oboe reed. Medium aperture, longer tip, blended scrape.
D – Small to medium sized aperture. Great for someone seeking a reed with some resistance.
O - Medium sized aperture, longer tip, very shallow V shaped tip.
G - More horizontal V scrape tip, shorter back, smaller aperture, short tip. Room for adjustment if desired.
W - Short tip, thick heart, small to medium aperture, rounded tip, more blended style but can still see parts.
F – Very responsive, balanced tip with a spine that extends through the tip. Medium aperture. Short back, dark tone. More resistant than the other intermediate reeds, room for adjustment if desired.
V - Long square tip with smaller aperture, thick heart, room for adjustment if desired. Natural cork staples.
