As of November 14, 2023 - we expect our order of Intermediate S oboe reeds by the end of this week. Check back daily to see if these are in stock.
The S and S-plus styles are the most popular and typically we do have the most of these, however since a lot of people like them, they do go out of stock frequently due to high demand. The S oboe reed maker is going to make fewer and fewer this year since she is going to have another baby (yay, we love you, Sara!). But that means that if the doctor says "bed rest," she's going to be on bed rest. Now is a great time to fall in love with a different reed style so when Sara is not able to make reeds temporarily, your student still has a great reed that they can play on.
Jennifer says, "I really like the intermediate G oboe reeds - they have a smaller tip opening like the S reeds, but they have a warmth of sound that help me produce that beautiful oboe sound"
The "O" style reeds have a bit of a medium to large tip opening, so if you tend to use a bit more lip pressure, these may be a great reed for you. Same with the "F" style.
Oboe reeds that tend to be in stock are:
Oboe reeds that we only get a small quantity of per month are (so maybe don't fall in love with these OR make sure you have a reed subscription so you can be sure to get some every month):
When they are in stock, there is a limit of 3 Intermediate oboe reeds per order at this time. Our intermediate oboe reed line is handmade by various professional oboists. The letters denote individual reed makers, and they all have their own scrapes and shapes. Reeds are listed here in order of most free-blowing (softest) to most resistant (hardest):
About character reeds: some reeds have a decoration on them (for example: Super Mario Brothers, Pokemon, etc...). Each character style comes in a variety of possible variations, not just what is pictured (for example: if you select Super Mario Brothers, you might get Luigi, Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, etc...). At this time we do not have the ability to accommodate a request or demand for a specific character within the theme. Characters are fun, but what's the most important thing? That the reed plays well.
